Amidst the corona epidemic, the central government has decided to supply food grains to the poor free of charge for the subsequent two months. The aim of the govt is to assist the poor within the second wave of the epidemic to beat economic difficulties. Additional food grains are going to be given for 2 months under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana) scheme through ration shops or public distribution system.

PMGKAY is being re-implemented at the request of some state governments as last year saw an honest impact on the scheme. Last year, a sudden lockdown was imposed to prevent the spread of Kovid-19. Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said, “FCI has prepared the whole machinery of quite 2,000 depots to stay the stock ready for distribution to the states. The FCI is in continuous contact with the states. we’ll ensure supply from FCI to the government and thereafter at fair price shops or ration shops.

More than 26000 crore rupees will be spent on Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

He said that 80 lakh tonnes of food grains are going to be distributed within the next two months, which can put a financial burden of quite Rs 26,000 crore on the exchequer.

Pandey said that at this point pulses haven’t been included under PMGKAY. Last year, it had been kept exceptionally and pulses with cereals got freed from cost. The National Food Security Act (NFSA) scheme is merely about food grains.

The government has enough stock to extend the PMGKY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana) scheme from June onwards 

The secretary said that if the govt has enough stock to increase the PMGKY scheme from June onwards. He said, “I can assure you, we’ve enough stock to affect things “.

Since the acquisition goes on, more stock is coming. we’ve enough stock. ” Asked why the govt is restricting the distribution of free food grains for less than two months and whether this is often a symbol of a lockdown within the coming months, the secretary said, The Prime Minister clarified it’s been said that there’ll not be an entire lockdown”.
